PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

> SRI LANKA AIR FORCE (18th April 1983- 30th April 2006)

Joined the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) on 18th April 1983 and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in the Administrative Regiment Branch. Approximately after twenty-three years of service, offered my resignations aiming to take up challenging work in the private sector to enhance my professional carrier in the field of Fire and Safety. Key appointments held during my tenure in the SLAF are given below

  • Chief Fire Officer Sri Lanka Air Force
  • Officer in Charge Colombo Municipal Council Fire Brigade (Civil) – Year 1996- 2001
  • Chief Fire Officer (Sri Lanka Air Force) – managed overall operations related to Aircrafts Fire and Rescue in the Air Force Bases and Air Field Units.
  • The Officer in Charge of the (Colombo Fire Brigade); When the Colombo Municipal Council Fire Brigade (CFB) was taken over by the Ministry of Defense (and handed over to the SLAF), the undersigned was appointed as the Officer in Charge of the (CFB). I was responsible for developing the Fire Fighting and Rescue capabilities of the (CFB), purchasing the latest equipment/vehicles, improving the response time and confidence of the firefighting crew to handle major disasters that prevailed
    at that time. I was able to manage more than 3000 routine fire calls and few major incidents (such as Kelanitissa Fire) and gained immense practical experience in Fire Fighting and Rescue operations.

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

  • Qualified Instructor, prepared training syllabus, for Basic/Advance Fire Fighters, conducted continuation training programs for station
    Fire Officers and senior non-Commissioned Officers, 
  • Fire Evacuation drills
  • FAFA training, Fire safety in Hotels/Institutions, performance evaluation for Fire Fighting staff
  • Fire Audits
  • Conduct of risk assessments, Fire Safety Audits and submission of reports/
  • preparation of Fire Evacuation plans, Fire Safety Audits.
