Fire Regulations in Sri Lanka
The Fire Regulation in Sri Lanka is contained under the Construction Industry Development Authority (CIDA) Act No.33 of 2014 which provides the minimum requirements for Fire Protection design and construction of new buildings and renovation of existing buildings throughout Sri Lanka
Under the Construction Industry Development Authority (CIDA) Schedule 2, the minimum Fire safety requirements that need to be implemented in any building are given in Fire regulations (CIDA/DEV/14) and Fire Specifications (SCA/9).
Fire regulations (CIDA/DEV/14) covers the mandatory requirements such as Administration and Applications, Means of Escape, Structural Fire Precautions, Fire Detection, and Alarm Systems, Fire Protection and Suppression Systems, Accessibility for Fire Fighting, Inspection and Maintenance and Testing of Active/Passive Fire Protection Facilities.
Fire Specifications (SCA/9) depicts the minimum technical specification required to ensure optimum performance and quality of fire detection, protection, and suppression systems stated in the Fire regulations (CIDA/DEV/14). These fire specifications will be referred to in conjunction with the Conditions of Contract and Project Specification but not fall below the minimum requirements in the fire specification (SCA/9).
